Operational Support

Floor Plans

Make your layout clear to operators and reviewers.

Floor plans submitted with a cannabis licence application or amendment serve a specific regulatory purpose — they document the facility layout, room designations, controlled areas, and the physical relationship between operational spaces. Health Canada reviews floor plans to understand where cannabis activities will take place and how the facility's design supports the proposed operations.

Clear, accurate floor plans reduce the likelihood of requests for additional information and make inspections more straightforward. They also serve as an internal reference for staff, contractors, and anyone who needs to understand how the facility is organized.

The challenge

Floor plan issues in cannabis applications typically fall into two categories: plans that lack the detail Health Canada expects, or plans that do not accurately reflect the actual or proposed facility. Room labels need to match the activities described in the application. Controlled areas need clear delineation. Security features, storage locations, and access points need to be shown.

For amendment submissions — when a facility is being modified after initial licensing — updated floor plans must accurately reflect the changes and maintain consistency with the rest of the documentation.
